I LIVED IN SILSBEE DEC 1954 - JUN 1956 ANYBODY REMEMBER ME Hi: My folks along with 6-8 other family’s all moved to Silsbee, TX in December of 1954. They all moved from Wilmington, NC. All had jobs at East Texas Pulp and Paper. I finished half of 5th Grade in 1955 in Silsbee and all of 6th Grade at Silsbee Sr/Jr High School. Then for some reason the same 6-8 family’s moved to Palatka, FL in 1956 to go to work for Hudson Pulp and Paper. I was only in Silsbee for a year and half. During the first few months we rented a shack, which is still standing after 58 years, and then bought a new home in what Wanda Roebuck says was in Hendricks Subdivision. To be honest, I could not tell you any Teacher I had or any friends by name that I had. Guess if you don’t see or say some ones name for 58 years you forget. Last weekend I Was doing some Genealogy research and ran across an Annual from Silsbee SR/Jr High School from 1956. I started looking at photos of the 6th Grade Class and bam, the photo and the name combo brought back memories. Some friends were David Davenport, Carmen Dominquez, Marvin Dunn, Randy Read, Connor Markley. While in Silsbee, do remember my Mother was Den Mother for a Cub Scout Den, I joined the Band in 1956, Trombone, did not remember the Band Director but Wanda told me it was Mr. Melvin Winger, do remember in our new house Mr. Winger lived about 4 houses down the Street and tutored me after school. Wanda Roebuck had given me the site Silsbee Photos and More on Facebook and I spent about half the night looking at photos. I am a full time Rv’er and currently am in San Antonio, TX. I have never been back to Silsbee but Wanda has told me via phone that she will take me back and give me the tour.
