I always enjoy the Israeli Film Festival because it showcases many talented Palestinian actors and often the films are very good. But in light of the attack on Gaza, a Gazan friend has asked that we boycott the festival and to circulate this petition asking Palace Cinemas to withdraw their sponsorship. Last year, I was unexpectedly caught up in a stoush between Jews Against The Occupation who were picketing outside and the Palace Cinemas Sydney owner. I imagine this year there will be even more drama. Here is my friend Ayman Qwaiders plea: I am a Palestinian from the enclave besieged Gaza Strip. I just arrived to Australia and left my family, friends and loved ones trapped in Gaza and who are currently experiencing unprecedented aggression. Israel has massively destroyed our cultural sites in Palestine. I cannot have a free access to visit my cultural sites in Palestine. Since the Israeli aggression began a month ago, Israeli warplanes have destroyed over 200 mosques in Gaza some of which are cultural and go back to 100s of year, even before Israel was created. Please sign the petition below and boycott the Israeli Film Festival.
