I am a Master student in the UK studying Conservation Biology and for my thesis I am looking at lion ecology in the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Wildlife conservation has been my dream ever since I can remember and my life goal is to prevent further decline of our precious wildlife. I have always adored big cats especially lions and I find their behavior fascinating. There is still so much that we do not know about these magnificent creatures which is what makes their conservation all the more difficult and challenging. This summer I am planning on camping 3 months in the bush living a remote life in order to track and observe a pride of lions that cause community disturbance by leaving the park and attacking livestock. There is much speculation as to what drives their movement outside park boarders which puts them at a risk of being killed by locals. A decline in lion population can have a negative effect on both ecological and economic aspects of the region and the country and being able to identify key features of lion ecology will allow for better wildlife and habitat management plans to be established. My project will aim to look at what factors in the environment contribute to lion habitat preferences such as prey availability, weather, habitat types and human encroachment. I was thinking of setting up one of those funding pages as I will need some money for fuel, food, and camping equipment but I am not so sure if people would want to contribute. So my question is who here would help fund me towards this project? It would be for a good cause as I strongly believe that being able to understand lion behavior would greatly benefit their conservation.
