I am dedicating this beautiful summer day on Cape Cod to the memory of our amazing aunt, Kay Whitney, whose 95 years of adventure, courage, love and raucous laughter will be celebrated by family and friends this evening in Bellevue, Washington. Born and raised in Boston, she played baseball with the boys (I think thats where I got it), taught our mother at Sunday school in Roslindale, raised some hell during the war and post-war years, and moved out to Seattle when it was still a sleepy little city. I think the West was about the right size for her huge spirit, but she always introduced herself as being from Boston, and she came back to visit many, many times including well into her 90s. I wish our whole East Coast clan, including our Mom Irene Kane and our Uncle Jack could be there tonight, to hear the stories and tell some of their own. But Im glad Julia Kane OKeefe, John OKeefe, Uncle Frank and Kathy Teed are there on our behalf. Love to our cousins, their spouses and kids. We should all live so long and so well!
