I am in such a dilemma… I am offered a chance to try out a young female pigeon, who would live with Lyoness and me in my apartment, but I have many mixed feelings and a lot of worries about this… First, without a job and decent income, I am very low on money and that is a worry, as keeping two pigeons would cost more in litter for the cage and in food (and all else that they need)…but not too much more, I guess…but when you are poor, any extra is a problem indeed. There is the issue of pigeon powder; and Ice pigeon do make so much of it, and that is already a small problem; but with two, I would need an air purifier, but again I cannot afford one and have other pressing matters first. Then there is the issue of dominance, as pigeons are very territorial and Lyoness has a strong character sometimes. Lyoness has been living here with me for three years; when she arrived, she was aged around 4 to 5 months old…she has bonded on me a long time ago and we have developed a strong bond and a beautiful relationship together, and we are quite established in our routine… there is a saying: three is a croud !!! And lastly, I had to find a home for my diamond doves because it was too much for me; too much powder, too much to clean, to feed and, again, the litter for the cage; too expensive…the cost has gone down a lot now with only one cage and one bird. So, if I bring in another pigeon and cage, I am back where I started…I don’t know what to do… Since Lyoness came into my life, I have always been at home and never been gone for more than a few hours at a time; but now with my search for a job, Lyoness will be alone for many hours a day, and I guess this is what has me worried; there are mixed feelings and different people tell me different things; mostly that Lyoness will adapt while I am away and to leave things as they are…but some people tell me to get her a companion…but that is easier said than done, for all the reasons listed above !!!
