I believe that the YES campaign was disingenuous, and feel that - TopicsExpress

I believe that the YES campaign was disingenuous, and feel that there were genuine uncertainties surrounding currency, the financial system and consumer prices in an independent Scotland. Despite this, I couldn’t resist to use my first truly democratic vote to support the creation of a fairer, perhaps more prosperous and certainly more democratic society, so I voted Yes. Yesterday, I felt empowered to finally be witnessing democracy in action. But today, I can feel more apathy creeping in as many Yes voters appear to have forgotten the ideals of the better system of democracy they advocated, and have now started to condemn and vilify anyone who disagreed with their perception of a ‘better Scotland’. We had the right to peacefully decide on our future, and the vast majority of the electorate turned out to vote, Scotland has spoken and we should respect that. Simply because there was a no vote, does not mean that we should become politically passive. We should fight injustices and our responsibility to society shouldnt end at the ballot box. Interpreting no votes as ‘embarrassing’, ‘self serving’ or ‘because people don’t like Alex Salmond’ is nothing but baseless conjecture - just because people had pragmatic concerns, or were opposed separation does not mean they did not want social change. Instead of criticising the results of a democratic process, we should be working together for a better Scotland.
