I challenge everyone to take 5 minutes out of their time to read and think about this. As many if you have probably noticed already, I rarely post anything on Facebook. I thought this would be a good time to express some thoughts. Iowas loss tonight and tough end to the season brings up a very good point. Everyones team will win some or lose some, that much is a given. Frans sons situation, just like so many others, is much greater than a game, any game. The young men on the team came together in support of Fran, his son, and his family. They will continue to support Fran and his family. This folks, is the demonstration of true winners. Winners on and off the court. Winners of life. Winners or honor, integrity and respect. This Hawkeye team is a role model for all to see. They are a role model for our kids and show our kids that even though sports may consume our lives, it is not who we are; it is not what makes us. Our community has lost many good men, women and children. We lost an especially good man recently. Though many things in life consume our time with anger, work, sports, sadness, happiness, etc, we must use this team as the example of fine young men they are. I am a diehard hawkeye fan, so forgive me for going into this particular game not really caring if they won or lost on the court. Because you see folks, they have already proven to me through their actions that they are winners off the court. That fact alone will help propel them into their future. After all, is going to school not to prepare you for life!? If you can show me players and a head coach with that much passion for not only basketball, but for family and life itself I would like to meet them, because I firmly believe they do not exist. Someday, when my kids are older and understand better, I will show them this Iowa team and everyone that was on it. I will show them to my children and say, see these guys, this is how you conduct yourself, win or lose. This is the definition of life winners. And make no doubt, winning at life is the most difficult task for all of us. The teams that are good and win a lot of games will always get the national media attention. But the teams that have upstanding players and coaches, they get next to zero attention. Well I am giving this team some attention, because they deserve it. I will close by saying this: please, everyone count the blessings you have. Keep precious the memories you make on a daily basis because not one single person knows when their time is done. Love your family with intensity and passion. Tell your mom, your dad, your brother, sister and anyone close to you that you love them. Be kind to one another. Like this team, live your life like you should, with honor, integrity, respect, citizenship, kindness and love. I challenge everyone to be the example. Do not let anyone dictate your life, you go live it. Remember these things and you will not only be successful in life, but you will greatly enjoy your life along the way.
