I chose to share MY story with improvingbirth.org for their #breakingthesilence campaign. As I stopped to consider sharing it with all of you, I started to get curious about my intention. What is my intention in sharing my story, my photo? On a personal level, it is about being heard. About no longer silencing mySelf. As I give a voice to my experience, as I OWN it, I take back my power and something shifts, deep within me. This is my intention, for mySelf. To fully own the truth of my experience, to no longer create from my past experiences and to move forward with a new vision. On a community level, it is about wanting so deeply to HAVE the conversation with women about pregnancy, labor, birth; about trusting in the body; about womens rights & knowing we always have a choice and that we are the authority in our own lives. Like many other systems, the medical model of pregnancy and childbirth is no longer serving women. The system does need to change. However I feel as though in order for the change to be effective, it needs to come from a place deep within each of us. For me this means shifting my inner dialogue, becoming more and more internally referenced. KNOWING I am the authority in my life. KNOWING that my body will never lie to me. TRUSTING in the innate wisdom I carry deep within, as a woman. If not now, than when? If not me, than who? I stand here, in the now, facing forward, ready to engage the shift that is happening inside of mySelf, to birth it in to the world. With new life comes death, and I am ready to let go and set free this part of my story, and to birth something new, something powerful, something deeply meaningful, with all of the women in my life, my community, who choose to stand with me! Please please PLEASE feel free to contact me, it feels deeply meaningful to connect with each of you, as a collective of women who will no longer be silenced!
