I dont find anything wrong in calling Indians as Hindus because the word was used to refer the people who were living beyond Indus river. As per Wikipedia The word Hindu is derived (through Persian) from the Sanskrit word Sindhu, the historic local name for the Indus River in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent (modern day Pakistan and Northern India).[2][a] According to Gavin Flood, The actual term Hindu first occurs as a Persian geographical term for the people who lived beyond the river Indus (Sanskrit: Sindhu).[2] The term Hindu then was a geographical term and did not refer to a religion.[b] To be exact, you cant see any kind of history for the establisher for Hindu religion. Later onwards all kind of religion which is being followed by the people beyond the Ricer Indus are called as Hindu religion. Let it be the Dravidian ideology, let it be the religion of Aryans (who were invaded into Indus valley from Persia or Iran), and let it be any other type of rituals followed by small sects in the subcontinent, everything is clubbed together and were commonly termed as Hindus. There is no a particular person, prophet or establisher for Hindu religion. Also none of the Hindu religious scriptures which is being followed nowadays is mentioning to call the followers as Hindus. That means the geographical name were later adopted by the group of people of subcontinent to have an identity for their culture. It is being said that, Arabians have started to call the people of North India as Hindus and the people of South India as Malabaris. Now also the people from India is referred to as Hindus or Hinds in Arabian countries. Calling you as a Hindu doesnt indicate that you are a follower of Dravidian culture and Aryan religion. Geographically we can be referred to as Hindus. Religion of yours may be different.
