I dont like to brag and I know its a long read, but I just had to post this because I was so proud of my daughters essay for her English assignment!! (I think it belongs in Vogue!!) Fashion bloggers: a species of fashionistas that spend their lives blogging about fashion, clothing, accessories and their daily lifestyles. The term itself has become one of the most overused and dirtiest in the fashion world, leading to a stereotypical view of this species. Every September and every February is the start of a new season. Not technically, but fashionably. The month of September is the month where all the designers debut their new Spring/Summer collections for the upcoming year, whereas the month of February is where the designers debut their new Fall/Winter collections, also for the upcoming year. Fashion week(s) is where the fashion bloggers come in. Sitting in the first few rows on the runway are the celebrities, the buyers, the editors of magazines, the socialites and the fashion bloggers. These freelance people live in these rows, as well as in the cities of New York, Paris, London and Milan, since all fashion weeks take place there. During the month of September, the fashion bloggers live in different climates, depending on the city. In Paris, it is mostly sunny and warm. In New York, it’s typically muggy and dry. In Milan, it’s almost always bright and clear. And in London, it’s generally rainy and hot. During the month of February, the climates are much different. It is safe to say that these bloggers all live in cold climates during this month. Paris, London and Milan all have normal cold temperatures, meanwhile New York’s weather is a bit retarded, since it snows one day than is warm the next. In these four major cities comes the natural resources: coffee, taxicabs, and money. In each city, coffee is a raw material in which everyone needs. It is an everyday must have to survive the hectic schedules that fashion week(s) brings on. To get from one show to the next, these freelance writers need car service: taxis. New York is the capital of taxicabs: the typical yellow and black Ford cars that reek of cigarettes and drainage. However, a new, yet also natural, resource is the company called Uber that provides car service at the tap of a button. It’s basically the way to say, “I’m a blogger and I fundamentally have my own car service.” And lastly, the true natural resource to all wealthy fashion bloggers: money. The green, rectangular piece of paper made of cotton and linen, that defines the world of fashion. Money: the essential thing to survive in the fashion world. Since most fashion bloggers already make tons of money, it’s basically considered a natural resource. Don’t let the term “fashion blogger” fool you, however. There are different levels of this species. There are the hierarchy, the social media obsessed, the wannabes and the hopeless. The hierarchy includes the famous bloggers who affiliate with different companies and brands, and who sit next to Anna Wintour (editor in chief of Vogue magazine) in the first row of each show. These famous bloggers are the it-girls, or it-boys, who are basically equivalent to famous actors or singers. They have made a name for themselves as well as a large bank account. Then, there are the social media obsessed. They tweet, they insta and they blog. They are also high on the blog scale and also have a large bank account. They are less famous but equally successful. Then sadly, there are the wannabees. They try to attend different events and get their foots in the door but sometimes, they just end up outside Lincoln Center with a nice outfit and no ticket. And lastly, there are the hopeless, also known as riff-raffs, who blog about their lives while having zero readers. The closest they’ve been to fashion week is by watching Instagram videos on their feeds. Maybe someday they’ll actually attend a show. During their leisure time, fashion bloggers clearly attend all four fashion weeks. However, they also work on new projects, get free items, shop at top notch designer stores, blog (obviously), travel the world and hang out with the fashion kings and queens. New projects include capsule collections with famous designers or creating their own jewelry or shoe line. Getting free stuff is the epitome of being a fashion blogger since if they wear clothing from a brand, they also endorse and promote those items. Shopping is a necessity for all however, while regular people shop at typical stores like Banana Republic, Nordstrom, J Crew and the Gap, these freelancers spend their money at stores like Prada, Chanel and Burberry. Traveling is also what bloggers sign up for while creating their blog titles. They travel to exotic locations such as Bali, Madrid, Prague and Johannesburg to promote themselves globally. And lastly, they spend their Saturday nights next to the fashion kings and queens like Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Karl Lagerfeld and Donatella Versace. What a life they live! These fashion bloggers follow the same stereotype: young people in their twenties. They are skinny, tall and picture perfect. They are ego driven, clever and attention craved. They all look exhausted yet also lively. And lastly and most obviously, they are all 100% fashionable.
