I had a guest get upset with me tonight for wishing them a Merry Christmas!... They actually took offense, to which I said Ok, Happy Holidays right away. I have 2 things to say on this matter. 1. Me wishing anyone a Merry Christmas is not to offend them. You are visiting a place I work, and I celebrate that holiday. 2. How hard is it to say... Thanks you too! or Thank You, But I celebrate ______________ holiday, and I dont take part in the Christmas Celebrations. To which on this I will probably still wish you a Great Holiday regardless of your belief system. In order to have a peaceful world- I realize we all dont have to see, think, feel, or believe the same ways. We are all from many backgrounds, and that is what makes the company of other people so great. Side Note:Mickey also celebrates Christmas by the way. You are at Disney World. They clearly dont hide this fact with signs, Christmas Trees, and decorations, etc... Some characters, in other places, or in their shows say other holidays greetings to include everyone. Still not meant to offend anyone. We have the Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Parties. As far as I know Walt Disney himself was a devout Congregationalist Christian man. Would he not still want the company he created to run this way? I guess I find it kind of disrespectful to be rude about it to me as an employee whos helping you have a great vacation no matter your beliefs, because I dont know you outside of working areas. I simply greeted you/a guest the same I would any other as a courtesy while working. To my professional friends - Is there a better way to handle this other than using the generic, Happy Holidays. As I feel that violates my free speech, and how Id like to greet someone during this holiday season. Is this just a case of some people are always looking to be offended? Or is it actually rude to wish someone a Merry Christmas?
