I had the privilege of going with APO to a Mosque this morning to help volunteer with them. They had a need for people to help clean up after people vandalized part of the highway they had adopted in Round Rock. As we were making conversation, someone asked if this kind of thing happens often. Not really they said. But, they told us about a time in 2013 when they applied to have a float in the Round Rock 4th of July parade. They were declined, and were told there were security concerns. In short, some people didnt want Muslims in their 4th of July parade. Rather than be bitter or angry, they found out who made the decisions, and made an open invitation to anyone who wanted to come to their Mosque, share a meal with them, so they could share their religious beliefs and experiences with them. Then, in 2014 they got their application approved and were in the parade. Its interesting to think that, in the past few months, the closest representation of how Jesus calls us to act was found for me in a Mosque.
