I have a 1986 Cutlass Supreme Brougham with an Oldsmobile 307 (69k miles) in it and it has been sitting in my parents garage for the past 14 years. The last time it was started was about 6 years ago and it ran great then. I went to start it a few months ago and it was making a cracking or light knocking sound when cranking. It eventually started and ran extremely rough and kept stalling at idle. When I was looking around under the hood, I noticed the oil level was way over the full mark and smelled like gasoline. I changed the oil and tried starting it again, it was still making cracking noise when cranking and it still ran extremely rough and more gas got into the oil. Im thinking something happened to the distributor gear or timing chain and the valves are opening at the wrong time which is letting gas get into the crankcase. Is this possible? Is there something else I should look for to determine the problem?
