I have a confession to make… I got my body analytics results - TopicsExpress

I have a confession to make… I got my body analytics results last night and they were worse than my results from 4 months prior. How much worse? Well I lost 0.6 lbs of muscle and I gained 3.9 lbs of fat, for a net change of +1.4% body fat. But that’s not my confession… My confession is that I’m perfectly okay with these results, and for better or worse, you should be okay with yours, too. In the time it took for my body to change a lot happened. I spent several weeks in Europe eating everything my heart desired. I sprained my ankle pretty severely and took a few weeks off from the gym (and my diet) to recover. I celebrated thanksgiving with chicken fried steak, and Christmas with gobs of candy. Sure I was “pretty good” most of the time, but that’s not the point. The point is that these numbers don’t define you as a person, and they certainly should not influence your feelings of self-worth. A test like this tells me definitively how my decisions over the last four months have impacted my body composition, and that’s valuable information to have! I’m going to use it as motivation to try harder in the future, but I view that as a positive, not a negative. All too often I see people stress over their goals (whether it’s losing fat or gaining muscle) causing them to lose sight of the big picture. They measure progress in minutes rather than months, and when they don’t see change they get frustrated and give up. I know this all too well because I’ve been there and I’ve made those mistakes. Remember that change is imperceptibly slow, and you won’t even realize that it’s happened for a long time. Were in this for life, and you need to be willing to accept that at some points you will reach your goals and at others you wont. Set goals, make a plan, stick to that plan, and cut yourself a little slack when you get off track (you will, just make sure to get right back on it!). Today is an opportunity to be one step closer to reaching your goals! Yeah I know thats cheesy, but Im okay with that, too :)
