I have a question....maybe for Ben Zimmer but anybody can answer. Was Obamas response last night to the folks clapping about no more campaigns to run a toned-down version of playing the Dozens? I felt that it was -- their clapping was a challenge to him, he responded with what I thought was very quick wit right back at them, and then his initial smile at 0:14 is sort of a you want to go there grin before he smiles a little broader and friendlier. Even the applause that followed seems to fit the Dozens -- bystanders, as it were, acknowledging the verbal sparring and, in this case, Obama the winner.
