I have always read and studied and watched everything I can get me hands on about training and riding horses. There are always certain comments/quotes that stick out in my mind. Sometimes it takes a couple years for them to fully sink in lol. I remember reading several times from a couple different trainers that Horses just want a leader, Ive even quoted it a few times myself. I mean it makes perfect since- who wouldnt want to have a someone to lead them who is so confident, kind, and smart, someone you can trust your whole being to- youd follow someone like that anywhere. But it never really truly hit me until today. Today was awesome lol. I got to work two green, 4year old geldings, an ott Standardbred and a Chincoteague pony. The first half hour with both horses was the battle to see who would be the leader, then its like something completely switches off in their brain, they stop trying to pull back and get away, they start to move with their head lowered and their back rounder and they are in tune to me. Its like their whole body sighed, like they were just so happy to not have to try and be the leader anymore. After that, they both let me saddle and sit on them and turn in a couple circles for the first time with no problems. It was so interesting to see the same exact thing happen one right after the other... Anyway. Thats my rant for the day! Our horses just want a leader :). Ride on world.
