I have been incredibly disheartened to read several posts and responses on the 38th Avenue Main Street page and on the Citizens for an Inclusive Wheat Ridge page that equate voting no on 2B to keeping special interests out of Wheat Ridge. In my involvement supporting the Wheat Ridge Wants 2B campaign, Ive learned who is working hard to provide information and facts so voters can make an educated vote this fall. Here are the people supporting 2B: 80% of council members, the mayor, 15 very involved residents, about 30 less involved residents, at least 10 businesses on 38th Ave and another dozen throughout the city. Every single person is either a resident or owns a business and, in several cases, they are both. Ive also read implied and direct statements that the interests of newer residents and business owners somehow dont carry as much weight as those who have been here longer. Are these people special interests Citizens for an Inclusive Wheat Ridge wants to keep out of our community? If not, who are they referring to? Im honestly trying to clear this up because every time I read it, I feel like Im being called a special interest which doesnt feel very inclusive.
