I have been studying zoning laws and zoning trends in cities around the country. This late afternoon, I lifted my head from my computer in my office here in the mountains--deep, deep, deep in thought--to be startled by a moose who has put her face almost against my window. I made no move or sound and watched as she chewed on our salt licks. Suddenly her baby appeared and started to join her mother at the salt licks. It is the most beautiful sight. I grabbed my camera and started to photograph--unfortunately, the rains have dirtied the windows, but I think I captured some good images. Then came our deer who were not pleased to find the moose at their salt lick and the water trough. The deer stayed for a short while until they decided that there was a lot of grass on the other side of the house. The moose carried on as if totally unbothered. IT HAS BEEN A MAGIC SCENE. They are now standing at my window as I write this article. The calf has begun to suck her mother. Oh my, the magnificence of nature. I am in awe. I have to share.
