I have to say at first I was against this. I felt like Emma was taking advantage of an already bad situation and exploiting it for her thesis. I admit this is in part based on memories of how strident you women at Columbia can (or any Ivy for that matter its not like this couldnt happen at dartmouth). But the more I though about it the more i realized this is an old, reactionary attitude I have been trying to get to mellow out with time and wisdom. A ittle time spent reflecting on it made actually its a brilliant way to demonstrate the power of art to raise awareness for a problem or cause, to engage others and possibly bring about some change. I hope girls who have suffered like Emma at every school around the country start carrying their mattresses around. And that other students rally to help them carry their burden. I think it would be an incredibly sobering message to fellow students and administration alike.
