I have written it many times before, but friends, brace yourselves for the Ferguson, Missouri Grand Jury to pass on indicting Officer Darren Wilson for any criminal conduct in shooting Mike Brown, 18, this past August. The fact that reports now show that Browns blood was on Wilsons weapon---meaning they initially were engaged in close quarters struggle initially, will be all that they need to shrug a shoulder and close the case. This should come as no surprise as most folks knew and still know that grand juries tend to rarely indict officers for excessive uses of force. Yes, I know that Brown still retreated at some point and that there is ample evidence that having been shot and later surrendering, that the kill shots were unnecessary. But as this fact is in contention, even if Wilson was indicted, the conflict in the evidence all but certainly would have led to a not guilty verdict in court. So the Brown family is now left with seeking redress in civil court where the family lawyers, which include my old friend Benjamin Crump-Esq, will have a much lower legal burden in proving whether Wilson was liable for Browns death. But while the civil legal game plays out, it is my most sincere hope that there will be no riots in Ferguson or St. Louis. Riots solve very little and only leave black folks imprisoned, dead and the source of scorn and derision. Our better efforts remain seeking measures through targeted economic boycotts and the political process to ensure that accountability becomes standard among law enforcement who are sworn to protect and serve---not to harrass and kill. I remain hopeful that we will achieve sustainable objectives in memory of Mike Brown...
