I havent said much in regards to the things going on in our (African American) community as of late. I felt lead to say this today, there is a generation gap that must be bridged in order for proper change to occur. The unfortunate reality is the previous generations have a different set of morals, values, and priorities than this current generation. It is mostly the fault of the previous generation (my generation) because somewhere in the midst of progress we lost the fervor for the values we were taught and brought up with, and considered them to be antiquated. Thus, we didnt pass them on to our children as the generations before us did for us, we wanted to do things another way. In this place of complacency and apathy, we lost our sense of community. We became very superficial in our thinking, thus our kids are more concerned with being live (I never thought that would come back lol) than being able to read. Whether we know it or not, the whole Bad B@$ch, Real N1$$a stigma is a mirror that was given to them by us. We forgot the struggle and became comfortable. We just plain ole forgot. We forgot how some of our parents walked miles or rode raggedy buses to segregated schools. We forgot that the education that most of us boast of was born on the backs of our grandparents, who worked hard for us because they had a greater vision than the present reality they faced. We forgot that we were reared by our parents, and our communities helped raise us. Our forgetfulness caused us to become very individualistic in our doings. Our communities turned into subdivisions and we lost it. We lost the synergy that caused REAL MOVEMENT. I may lose some friends for saying this, but oh well Ive never been known for being the popular preacher. We can protest and sit in and lay down and all of that is great. It symbolically sends a message, but that message will not become a movement until we reach back and grab this generation and teach them. Unfortunately they are practically grown now, so it makes for an uphill battle, but if we want to see change, the fight is worth it. Once we reconnect the generations, movement will occur. Until then, its futile because the generations have different agendas. #Selah
