I hung Multiple art shows today...with (mine being last) with my dear friend Christa Staab. I did remember to videotape one of them (of course not mine) scrambling between 1-5 pm. The difficult part is I cant hang during rush hour (lunch or dinner) and how is that possible??? Ugh--beautiful shows but alas Im not paid for it. In fact, in a years time, Ive spent several hundred dollars of my OWN (Sanders) money to do these with no financial recompense. (Alas, it is a good resume builder). Those are the THREE WORDS ARTIST HATE WORST!!!!! Or, hi, let me take you to lunch and you can give my that painting. Does lunch put food on MY TABLE AT HOME? GAS INY CAR? MORTGAGE MONEY? CAR PAYMENT. every time I purchase art (it is directly from the artist who WONT HAVE TO SHARE 50-60% of the profits with a gallery. AND, I always give the artist a few more bucks. Especially if it is first Fridays and they are young and have a little table, or only a blanket, often Nothing... Just there are to make a few dollars extra. I urge others to do the same thing. I hung 3 art shows on the mainline today for other artist---spent 200$ of my own money AND TO TOP OF ALL OFF--the owner of Firinji in Ardmore chastised me rudely because I was hanging the final show (MINE OF COURSE - BECAUSE I Always PUT MYSELF LAST) at 4:30. This is an establishment, I was informed. How in the world am I to hang 3 shows in one day AND DO THEM ALL BETWEEN 2pm (after lunch rush) and before 5pm (dinner rush). And keep everyone happy. My favorite was asking 3 employees for Windex?? Wall spray, (something to erase a mar on the wall) and NOT ONE SONGLE PERSON UNDERSTOOD WHAT I WAS ASKING FOR??? Seriously. I am pro-integration, but Im asking for WINDEX!!!!!! Nope---Ill just continue to throw money at my FREE job and get berated! By the way-- please Check out the mainline arts Community. We are striving (and the owners are thriving), but it does give an awesome sense of satisfaction to see a show beautifully hung and well thought out. (To my personal friends---this 3 year olds temper tantrum is NOT directed at you.)
