I just posted a similar comment on a friends page but I think it bears repeating: Robin Williams was a bright man with unlimited resources. The fact that he put himself back in rehab a few months ago indicates he was willing to deal with his addiction. Even with willingness, resources and intellect, Robin Williams must have felt hopeless in the face of addiction and mental health illnesses. The combination of addiction and depression is pervasive and deadly. They are frequently comorbid conditions (add trauma in there and you have the trifecta of misery). When we make addiction a moral issue (addicts are losers) and depression a defect of character (these people are just weak) we so minimize the fatal nature of these illnesses, and the torment of those still living that SHAME becomes the killer.
