I just read Edward O. Wilson (official)s latest book The Meaning - TopicsExpress

I just read Edward O. Wilson (official)s latest book The Meaning of Human Existence. Wilson is an evolutionary biologist and myrmecologist (ant biologist), but he does something that too few scientists of our day do, he philosophizes. I shockingly learned that over half of Americans deny evolution, mostly based on their faith to a creationist religion, despite the overwhelming scientific research that supports it. The arise of religion coincides with our evolution of a highly intelligent mind, consciousness, and our tribalism which granted us an incredible adaptive advantage. We now retain relics of these adaptations which have become antiquated, a hinderance to our collective understanding of our biosphere and how to live in it without crushing its biodiversity and supporting habitats. I heartily encourage any who denies the theory of evolution to read Wilsons The Diversity of Life, or if you insist on plugging your ears and yelling La La LA, then read his book the Creation which ultimately states that despite its source, life on earth is precious and we ought to do everything that we can to protect it. We alone among all species have grasped the reality of the living world, seen the beauty of nature, and given value to the individual. We alone have measured the quality of mercy among our own kind. Might we now extend the same concern to the living world that gave us birth? The problem [Absolute Paradox] is not in the nature or even in the existence of God. It is in the biological origins of human existence and in the nature of the human mind, and what made us the evolutionary pinnacle of the biosphere. The best way to live in this real world is to free ourselves of demons and tribal gods.
