I just received my 2nd booking cancellation ever (both in the last 20 months). It gets easier to accept folks cancelling due to economic pressure and choosing to use an ipod instead for the most important day of their marriage. I know their evening will be pretty bad - unless: 1 - they nominate 1 person to control the music 2 - that person has the ability to use the equipment 3 - they choose their music carefully make make sure the media player only has music they want at their reception on it (prevents accidental/inappropriate music being played) 4 - they hire or borrow speakers that will sound good for the number of people attending 5 - Use one of the many cheap apps that automatically levels out loud songs and boosts quieter recordings 6 - never leave the media player unattended - especially as people get a few drinks on board! 7 - For cheap legal songs go to mp3million and choose the highest bitrate available 8 - if you are highly-sociable gregarious types, the song order wont matter too much 9 - pick the least crap songs your relatives, close friends and bridal party suggest and make sure you LISTEN to them ALL before putting them on your playlist 10 - You only need about 20 songs for each hour music plays for - choose them VERY carefully 11 - make up a different playlist for each part of the event (Pre-ceremony, Ceremony, Recessional, Congratulations, Canapés, Bridal Entry to Function, Dinner, Desert, Cutting of The Cake, Throwing Bouquet/Garter, Ist dance, 2nd Dance with parents, 3rd Dance with Bridal Party, Party Songs, Supper Music (cake served with coffee), leaving songs, Drunk Over-stayers sing-along Favourites). 12 - ask a friend who is just starting out Djing and give him/her very detailed written instructions and no beer until all the important stuff is played if this is all too daunting, hire me and save money elsewhere in your budget
