I just sprung these two (Kiwi (green/white) and Kiki (white) from Washington Humane Society shelter yesterday afternoon. They are calling to their four flock members already. Would someone please tell me what type of budgies these are? Ive never seen black spots like Kiwis! Also, to answer Maevonne Lees question, we make an initial well bird visit (free within 14 days of adoption--used to be 10) to the vet, and I pay maybe $65 for a fecal Grams stain. There are two kinds of stain and I will need to ask the vet which one we always do (for budget reasons, I dont do both unless theres some evidence I should.) One to three months is the recommended quarantine but after a month its REALLY hard to hear the new birds calling to the existing flock: one can feel how badly they want to be together. At first, I open either one cage or the other for free flight and let them visit from the outside of the other cage. After a month or two, Id open both cages and let them wander into each others cages (WITH SUPERVISION)! My new ones are clipped-wing, and older/senior, so they are especially vulnerable for the flighted ones knocking them over or maybe picking a fight. I hope this helps! I change water and food and give fresh veggies. They are still in the same cage they came in...It is also good to clean the cage with vinegar and lemon juice and theres also a cleanser Young Living sells called Thieves. Some friends from Phoenix Landing use that one but its best to buy direct because, when I bought on Amazon, it looked like the bottle was tampered with and I felt unsafe using it around my babies.
