I know that we are still a nation in grief and recovery at the moment, but once we get into the rebuilding phase, I sincerely hope that our leaders begin to realize that the typical Filipino home is built of light materials and thus wont be able to withstand the monstrous storms that batter our Island nation several times a year. We have been content in housing our people in Classrooms that are use in educating our youth. Most of the time the education of our youth is sacrifice, as the flood waters have not yet receded and these classrooms are still occupied. As we have no choice but to rebuild, may I suggest that in rebuilding our destroyed cities, we start thinking of building a couple of gymnasiums made of concrete & steel with adequate toilet facilities, where we could safely evacuate our people during bad weather in every rebuilt city. We have the Maalampaya funds, the Pagcor funds & the Sweepstake funds available and mostly squandered by our Politicians. Not only can our children use these gymnasiums for sports activities it could also serve as a formidable protection for our people. These gymnasiums should be built on a higher ground and a distance from the coast. These could also serve as a staging ground for our rescue units and a place for food storage. They should be provided with adequate water supply & possibly their own generators.
