I met with the CEO of a Cincinnati company this week, and one thing he said that I thought was especially compelling is that successful companies have a very difficult time straying from or upending the set of assumptions that helped to make them successful in the first place. Put in more start-up-y lingo, what he was basically saying is: Innovation demands disruption. That disruption can be unnerving, but if you dont do it, you run the risk of becoming Blockbuster in a world with Netflix (or pick from plenty of other examples).
