I might get booted but I just don’t get it! I started - TopicsExpress

I might get booted but I just don’t get it! I started researching my ancestors because of my great uncle AZ Bradley who I never met. AZ was on the USS Hornet when it sank during WWII. From family stories, AZ came back from the war a bit touched in the head and the family really did not have a lot of good things to say about him. As a retired US Navy Sailor myself, I was fascinated about AZ’s experience and I wanted to learn more about him. In the process, I got the ancestry bug and was hooked…ok…obsessed. As I began to learn more and more about my ancestors my entire outlook on the study of American history changed. So did a few other things. I do this because I love it, it was a choice but with that I believe it is now my responsibility to pass on what I learn. I strongly believe, failure to share everything I have on OUR family would be to disrespect their memory and disregard their sacrifices. Notice, I wrote “OUR” because you just never know. Related or not, one may find something posted which provides an elusive clue and takes down that troublesome brick wall. Thru my research I had the greatest honor when my 92 year old, WWII veteran 1st cousin 2x removed was re-united with several of his survivng 1st and 2nd cousins. Isn’t this what it is all about? So, what is I just don’t get? I don’t get why folks get all upset about others snagging photo’s or articles available on the web. If someone takes something I write and post online, go for it, I do not care. If I cared, I wouldn’t put it on the internet. I don’t even care if he/she is using material I have posted for monetary gain. Hey if they publish, the information gets out there and our family history is preserved. Most importantly the information I have on my ancestors does not belong to me. It belongs to every descendant so what right do I have to hold it close to my chest? I don’t get why folks think someone who choose to remain “Anonymous” is either sneaky or dishonest. I choose to be Anonymous on F-A-G because I believe the information I put on F-A-G serves a better cause than personal recognition. I don’t need a thank you. If my family shares the information and keeps the memory of our ancestors alive then that is thanks enough for me.
