I need your help. On the horns of a dilemma. A real-life friend of mine has signed up to perform in a musical, and hes very excited about it. He says it has a wondeful score and fantastic songs, and has been urging me to listen to the original cast recording, which I just have. It is AWFUL! It sounds like a Simpsons parody of a really terrible musical and makes Springtime For Hitler seem like Sondheim. The only good thing I can find to say about it is that now its finished, Im appreciating the peace and quiet more than ever. The tunes are clichéd and crass, and the lyrics sound like they were written by a primary school teacher with a rhyming dictionary. Truly horrible. The dilemma? Im going to be seeing him, and someone else whos in it, for the next six nights, and I know hes going to ask me what I thought of it. I dont want to lie to him, but I also dont want to tell him that Id rather have hot tar poured down my nostrils than ever hear it again. Any ideas?
