I once called The Enid a “Marmite” band but never went on to - TopicsExpress

I once called The Enid a “Marmite” band but never went on to explain. Over these long years of creative work, I have come to learn that the music I have helped to produce seems only to have a resonance with those who are spiritually awake in the emotional sense. Carl Jung said; “Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” As you may know, my role with The Enid has changed – and in way which I am enjoying. I know a few of you who are of my generation have had problems with the way the band is evolving. Others are ready to embrace the changes which are bound to come. For me, this is probably the most exciting and rewarding time of my whole life as I watch the future Enid taking root in the present. Joe Payne is clearly as naive as I am; for to be naive is to be vulnerable and open. This has to a good thing for all artists because it allows uninhibited expression of ideas and the freedom to speak as one sees. I for one, could not have composed any of the music I have if I had found myself wedded to some political or religious ideology; nor if I had become an academic. THE BRIDGE SHOWS and the accompanying album due next year are crucial to the bands development. They represent the effort that the younger members of The Enid have made in order to understand and absorb the “magic” which makes The Enid unique. This is where my world which Joe Payne calls “Classical” and his world meet, embrace and become one; where the “Classical” supplied by me joins the youthful ambition of a young man with a destiny and the capacity to be one of the greatest rock icons of his generation. THE BRIDGE album was Joe’s idea – not mine; and his reason for pursuing it is that he realised that he would never to be able to do justice to DUST (the final part of the Journey’s End trilogy, previously titled Reset) without making his sometimes difficult voyage of self discovery first. Working with him on this project has thus far been an enlightening experience for us both. I want you all to try and be present at least one of The Bridge Shows next year. To those of you who have already pre-ordered The Bridge Album, many many thanks. To those who have yet to do so, please try and do so soon and help the band to fund their ambitious plans for the shows early next year. Yours as ever, Robert John Godfrey
