"I read a poem to a stranger and saw her cry. I threw the rock that caused an avalanche. I pulled the plug that drained the sea. I lit the fire that burned my world. Tears washed the ashes, clogging the rocks that formed a lake that gave water to douse the flames. She read one back and I felt her pain. Barefoot, I stumbled on rocks of an empty lake bed. Black soot from a burned out terrain stains my hands. Trickling stream washes me clean. My God, what have I done with such simple words, words that caved in her mind?" John Pelham Lay
