I really do think that some of the right-wing idiots in charge of Israel ought to pay closer attention to the Holocaust commemorations. On the Today programme, Chief Rabbi Mirvis, asked Have the lessons of the Holocaust been learnt? Among these lessons are (i) the need for education, (ii) the teaching of kindness, compassion and selflessness and (iii) tolerance without boundaries. I can only hope his worthy message goes further than Radio 4 listeners. The harrowing accounts of evil and suffering currently being recalled would certainly strike a chord with any innocent person who has, for example, lost their home or relatives in Gaza. At the time, most turned a blind eye to what the Nazis were doing - and, as we discovered seventy years ago, millions of innocent people lost their lives in the cruellest way possible. But today, we dare not criticise what Israel is up to. Ill leave the last word to the Chief Rabbi: Let us remember the past, for the sake of a peaceful and secure future
