I recall reading that mneme, or memorisation/memory techniques, - TopicsExpress

I recall reading that mneme, or memorisation/memory techniques, were a part of Stoicism. I used to be fascinated by mnemonics (Frances Yates The Art of Memory is a scholarly look at how mnemonic techniques affected art and civilisation from the Greeks into the Middle Ages and beyond). I once did a Memory Man act on stage, so its been a passion for a long time. Anyway, last night I was thinking about the evening meditation, and it occurred to me that a mnemonic could be used to help with practices throughout the day. Namely, MAP. In the morning: Morning Acquire Purpose (go through likely activities etc., as per the morning meditation). Throughout the day: Mindful Awareness and Prosoche: Mindful awareness in terms of present focus, and prosoche to emphasise the ethical aspects of focusing on virtues and judgements (in your power etc). Evening: Mistakes made (not self-blame), Actions and opportunities missed, Praise and Progress. (Praising your good deeds, then thinking how to address the mistakes or missed actions/opportunities the following day.) I think it might be helpful to have a MAP for practice. I like these kinds of devices, so I thought Id post it. If you find yourself without a guiding handbook, the acronym MAP can help tell you what to do and when.
