I recently had a friend ask me a question, one that the answer should seem quite obvious. But as I look out my window at the night, the street light near the sidewalk by the front yard, the darkness of a mountain not far away against the black backdrop of the night sky; a song echoes in my brain, or maybe its in my heart - we may never pass this way again is the song, and I find the question difficult to answer. The question is - Can you tell me precisely your definition of awake. He asked me to make a post, so here goes. I suppose Ill make a few statements and try to compartmentalize the answer, but I dont think there is a single easy answer to this question. For as many people that may be presented this question, I think there will be that many different answers. Being awake does not mean you have all the answers, or that you know everything. Being awake means always watching. All empires throughout history have been built on lies, that hasnt changed, and its those lies that have us pitted against our brothers and sisters around the world, and here in our cities at home in the US, through racism, bigotry, hypocrisy, ignorance, and fear. Its understanding that you are a slave but you dont have to be. What I mean by that, and Ill quote from a song by Janis Joplin, freedoms just another word for nothing left to lose. When we place value on ourselves according to what we have, then we have no value in ourselves. Ill quote some lyrics from another song - Fret for your figure and Fret for your latte and Fret for your lawsuit and Fret for your hairpiece and Fret for your Prozac and Fret for your pilot and Fret for your contract and Fret for your car. Its a bullshit three ring circus sideshow of freaks. - (Tool - Aenema) So I suppose to sum it up being awake is a combination of a state of mind, its cognitive perception, its placing value on something that is priceless, that being life over all other things; our life, and the lives of others. Its the ability to compare what were told, to what we see as our current model of society and culture and realize 2+2 in this messed up system seems to equal five, and something just doesnt seem to fit right. But the thing is you have to know what the puzzle looks like to understand where the pieces fit. So you have to listen to your heart, AND - When the men on the chessboard Get up and tell you where to go And youve just had some kind of mushroom And your mind is moving slow When logic and proportion Have fallen sloppy dead And the White Knight is talking backwards And the Red Queens off with her head Remember what the dormouse said FEED YOUR HEAD - (Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit) And always follow the money!! Never take anything at face value, always dig for information, and realize also that sometimes truth hides in plain sight, and so do lies. That may not be an answer that makes sense, but its the answer that makes the most sense to me. I think we all have our own answers to this question so Id love to hear some other peoples answer to the question. .
