.....I remember growing up here in Egbe and loving it. My kid brother and I played and fought in this compound and roamed the streets without fear. Coming back here now, holds more pain for me. The streets are no longer the same. Erosion has reduced the streets level by more than a meter and the neighbourhood is now dirty and over populated. This is not the retirement my mum dreamt of when she came from Fadeyi in Ikorodu road to build her retirement home in Ikotun-Egbe. Never for one day, since December 1988 when we moved here, as any government graded our roads with no pretence towards providing pipe borne water, the electric poles are still the same ones bought by our neighbour. It is deeply sorrowful, when you find the labour of your parents and their desire for rest in their old age, taken away by the criminals in government that we have to stand up for, raise our hands to and in whoms presence, we have to keep quiet. Nigerian leaders are some of the most hypocritically corrupt and mentally inept set of humans ever created. Branding themselves all over with the fruit of failure, they vaingloriously parade their their ignorance and celebrate as hallmarks of their omnipotence, projects that other nations take for granted! We must cease to limit our blames to the present leaders but extend our complaints to the past leaders since 1960; who took a very prosperous and blessed nation and turned it into a gutter of destitutes, decay and despair; laying the foundation of many deaths, broken dreams and failed hopes!
