I sometimes hear people talk about their "diets" and how little they eat and it blows my mind that they are actually still functioning. You must consume adequate calories even if your trying to loose weight, bottom line. If your not, your setting yourself up for a host of problems (such as metabolic derangement) and dramatically effecting your performance in the gym, in life and your overall long term health.
