I think this is a fair reflection of my Top Ten reasons for being thankful: • THANKFUL for my family on Facebook ... all those disembodied names and faces with whom I exchange humor and compassion, facts and opinions, music and photos. Special shout-out to Livi, Aleister and Jack ... hope Im still around when you three have your own Facebook profiles. • THANKFUL for my BFFs ... the ones who have stuck by me, through changes in vocation, changes in religion, and changes in financial stability. Theres nothing quite as fulfilling, nothing quite as spiritual, as being someones friend for half a century. • THANKFUL for being old enough to remember what life was like BEFORE the internet and smart phones ... BEFORE Google and WikiPedia and YouTube and Angry Birds ... so I can fully appreciate these technological miracles, and never take them for granted. • THANKFUL for cyber-chatting, email, texting and Skype, and every other advancement in our ability to communicate, in hopes that someday, telephones will be obsolete. • THANKFUL for bacon, ice cream, pizza, Popeyes chicken, cupcakes, McDonalds fries, bacon, brownies, 24-hour grocery stores, and bacon. Also for the medications that, so far, have prevented me from slipping into a diabetic coma. • THANKFUL for boobs. • THANKFUL for having been an adolescent in the Sixties. And Im pretty sure I dont have to explain why. • THANKFUL for my parents, who taught me that knowing how to spell, and knowing proper grammar and punctuation and clear sentence structure would be the foundation for a successful future, no matter HOW delusional that advice may have been. • THANKFUL for all those amazing individuals who have chosen, as their mission in life, to make people laugh. They are my gods. • THANKFUL, most of all, for my family — one brother, two aunts, and a cuddle of cousins (yes, thats the collective noun for cousins) — who know me extremely well, but love me anyway.
