I understand there are problems associated with disruptive new business models like Uber and Lyft coming into the Memphis market. The traditional taxi business is heavily regulated for safety and it doesn’t seem fair to let somebody providing a similar service come in without any of those burdens. But rather than simply sending a cease and desist letter, how about the city offer a path for these new businesses to operate legally? If we want to be a progressive, competitive city we’ve got to orient toward solutions, not problems.
