I visited my friends home today in Mount Pleasant, TN. It is known as Shackelford Corner, built in 1905 by the Shackelford family. To say it is an amazing house is a huge understatement. The last owner did many necessary repairs and improvements. However, there is still much work to be done. As many times happens, well-meaning people do ill-advised remodeling, but the bones of this old lady of a house are still very good! With tender-loving care, she will be amazing once again. Like Scarlett & Tara in Gone with the Wind (the film my friend - the current owner - loves dearly), this home *will* rise again! P.S.: There are SO many rooms in this 3-level home - large kitchen, huge dining room, front parlor, sitting room, full bedroom/bathroom with sunken bath, large sunroom/morning room, utility room; upstairs large bedroom with two side rooms which once were walk-in closets, maybe even servants rooms, but are now a childrens playroom and upstairs bathroom, another bedroom (both bedrooms have large dormers with sitting benches, perfect for sitting in the sun and reading a book or curling up with one of her 4 cats...) The back yard has a beautiful swimming pool and carriage house, plus facing the alley is a 4-stall garage. There is a basement with two cisterns fed by rain run-off from the homes roof, original to the home, that were used for self-sufficiency in case of loss of city water/drought, etc. And the best part? The home is haunted - see tnghosthunters/shackelfordcorner.htm (And yes, my friend and other members of her family have had many encountered, direct and indirect with the ghosts of the house...)
