I wanted to survey the people that use a Lipo battery to power - TopicsExpress

I wanted to survey the people that use a Lipo battery to power their FT-817. Specifically on SSB at 5 watts what kind of uptime and talk time are you getting and how many mah is your battery? Have you turned off the backlighting, turned off NB and IPO? I worked a number of years in the RC Hobby industry a few years back and have remained an avid Electric aircraft flyer and have a good stash of lipo battery packs, chargers etc. I have looked at the consensus on the what current is needed and had a wattmeter on my power supply at home but I am wondering what results were had in real world use. I would like to be able to get about five to six hours over 2 days of uptime and the typical mic time calling CQ before I would have to charge. I have quite a few 3S(12.6v) 2200mah and 6000mah, enough of similar packs that one option is using them in parallel to double the mah. The stock pack new is terrible, as it drops to 9.2 volts fast if I talk, but I know the Lipo at least for the first volt and a half will act more like my power supply as it wont drop in voltage like the stock NiMH. Thanks to any replies on your experiences on using Lipo batteries. KG7FDJ
