I was leading a Hidden (Mostly Indoor) Art tour for Chicago - TopicsExpress

I was leading a Hidden (Mostly Indoor) Art tour for Chicago Architecture Foundation yesterday. One of the stops is the conference area on the mezzanine of the Thompson Center, where several very cool paintings are displayed. Also just standing there are these two lamps, clearly not your ordinary home floor lamps. Ive been wondering about them, but kept forgetting to check them out. So after the tour was over, I went back to the Thompson and inquired about them at the desk in the Illinois State Museum Gallery. The woman there was terrific. She went to the back room of the gallery and returned with a large 3-ring binder and a catalog, all from a 1985 juried competition to design an entire collection of furniture - two sofas, four chairs, two occasional tables, one coffee table, and two lamps . . .for the reception room of the Governors office in the new State of Illinois Center (now known as the Thompson Center). The winning entries included First, Second, and Special Category Third Places, Ten Honorable Mentions, and Four Special Merit Awards that deserve recognition and construction. The description of these lamps says that they were designed by artist Deborah Newmark and architect Stephen Wierzbowski (Florian Wierzbowski Architects) and made by lamp manufacturer Frederick Cooper, Inc.They are called Rain Cloud Lamp Table and Sun Cloud Lamp Table.
