Kickboxers: Those of you who were in Sparring class last week - TopicsExpress

Kickboxers: Those of you who were in Sparring class last week polishing your boxing skills. This video demonstrates the head movement we were discussing. It is also a good demonstration of how to use the lead shoulder to defend your head, in place of your lead glove. But, as we mentioned, these are advanced technique that should not be practiced until your fundamental movements are completely solid. Were showing you this video only as an example of how those fundamentals can be expanded at an elite level. Those of you who were in Basics class this week: This video is a great demonstration of sideways movement that we were working on, and how you can capitalize with counter strikes when you are able to move to the outside of your opponent, and towards the edge of their power range. This concept works both in boxing, and kickboxing. Remember: Working on boxing once in a while, as a kickboxer, is a great way to get better at the punching aspect of kickboxing, but boxing is a different game. For example, a kickboxer cannot bend at the waist as low as Mayweather does in these videos due to legs and knees. Additionally, the boxing stance that Mayweather uses exposes a kickboxer to leg kicks, and power leg body kicks. Just the same, the fundamental principles are very applicable to kickboxing, even if they need modification to work effectively.
