I went to stony point. I was told the exact same thing about the vet tech program my freshman year and now Im a junior in college and theyre just now trying to get a barn up. I showed animals. Would it have been easier to have my animals at school? Maybe. But not if we had a barn that wasnt built right and not if it wasnt a safe place for those animals. That barn needs to have the proper fence and locks around it so nobody can go mess with those animals like the year at McNeil when pigs were slaughtered for Halloween by stupid teenagers. There should have been no rush on this barn or cutting corners because I guarantee you if something like that happened at our farm you would regret it in a heartbeat. Your kids are going through a learning process in high school already and raising these animals is only adding to that. Dont take it away from them by trying to rush building that barn because having a crappy, unsecure barn and an animal is worse than a good barn an animal and a little drive twice a day. I drove out to Hutto from Round Rock everyday (about 10 miles one way) twice a day when I was able to drive and before that my parents took me. Yes its a lot of work to put in with driving and money and everything. I know. I spent about $4000 just in gas my senior year of high school. But you know what. It was worth every bit of money and all the effort that went in from everyone that helped me. So kids, if you do it, DO IT. Dont half ass any of this. Your teachers are putting in work to help you out and if you feel like thats a lie then tell your teachers that you need help and theyll help you. I know mr. Abrams and mrs. Fehlis and ms. D. Theyre sooo supportive and they are there for yall. Thats what they spent 4 years in college for guys! Also, your parents are putting in a lot of money too so do it good for them too. But do it good for yourself so you can say ya I did that! Parents, if you want your kid to learn responsibility then show them FFA. Dont force them into it because it will be a miserable experience for everyone and youll get stuck with more work than you need. Let them decide and if they wanna do it support them 150% cause theyre gonna need it. Teachers, you guys changed my life whether you were there the whole time or not. I may not have had animals at the farm where yall could help and I may not have ever asked for help but I got all the help I needed from yall at school just by being able to be in your classes and make so many friends in FFA. This is the absolute best experience of your life if you want it. Waiting for the right barn is worth it guys.
