I worked in a zoo, but not around an animals I wasnt trained to - TopicsExpress

I worked in a zoo, but not around an animals I wasnt trained to handle. I also worked in a taxidermy studio for 5 years. Im one of the few people on the planet who can say from experience I KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT DEAD ALLIGATORS TO KNOW I WOULDNT WANT TO TANGLE WITH A LIVE ONE. Their leather skin is VERY VERY thick. Their back is like armor. An alligator is one of the most difficult animals for a taxidermist to mount, because we have to use a lot of special tools. The most difficult thing to do is to get the jaws open. I find sawing through the jaw muscles is the best way to loosen it up. The only sure fire way to kill a gator is to shoot them directly in the brain at the base of the skull. BUT EVEN WHEN DEAD... they are STILL DANGEROUS. I was on an alligator hunt years ago. (Strictly as an observer for a proposed video shoot) I put my hand on a completely dead gator which later started thrashing around as though it were alive. People watch all these highly trained Jungle Jim, Animal hunter, Tarzan types on TV... then foolishly run out into the wild thinking they can do the same thing. Even people who have been training with gators for years and years have an occasional slip up and get bitten. Most of the time there is help nearby so they survive. ( With some bodily damage of course.) Im sure theres videos on you tube to back me up. This video could have EASILY ended tragically. The alligator could have had this guy for lunch if he really wanted to. When a gator gets a hold of one of a limb, it clamps down on you, starts spinning around... and you get amputated in nothing flat. So please... dont be Tarzan... be alive. Good night. `
