I wrote this originally on Chesapeake Ranch Estates page..... I say.... lets sign the petition.... it doesnt mean we will have a municipality... it just means were willing to put the question on the ballot..... and it puts the whole matter back on the volunteers to make it happen in November 2016. Over on the Calvert Shores page there is a poster who goes by the name of Don something or other..... name is not important because it could be anyone.... Anyway this person is totally against signing the petition to bring the municipal question to the ballot in 2016. I use to be like that. I use to think its only a way for those people who can afford it will get to say what goes on. Yep.... I fought anything that sounded like municipality..... then I got on the board.... still no change in my heart.... for years I listened to the tired beginnings of a municipal movement come and go.... Usually the municipality movements began with the steering committee and they would without fail have a swimming pool on their wish list. They would write a survey.... get some skewed response numbers. Then they would die out after a couple of meetings and the board would go back to bickering about whats written on facebook. This time.... this committee.... they have it right! The petition doesnt mean that we will immediately become a municipality. The petition only serves as the ultimate survey. All the Petition to go to a municipal vote really says is this..... ARE WE INTERESTED IN GETTING THE FACTS ON PAPER PRO AND CON AND TAKING IT TO AN OFFICIAL BALLOT? Do you want a good discussion on municipality that results in a vote on an official ballot in 2016? Thats it.... Lets do this.... lets find out if there should be a ballot vote.... Will it be easy? NO Will it work? Only if the majority wants it to work Is it worth the time and effort? Sure.... those who believe one way or another will finally get to the final question once and for all.... What if it fails? Well then those who want it bad enough will start all over again.... but those who dont want it dont have to listen....
