IMMERSION – The Daily Devotional of Harvest Bible Chapel West Minneapolis Perfect Refuge by Brent Halvorsen See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction! – Psalm 52:7 (ESV) When I was a boy my dad would often call me to the basement where he was working on a project. Most of the time he wanted me to hold a flashlight for him while he was attempting to fix something tedious. After repeating this process for years, I began to develop a love for working on projects, especially wood projects. Its strange but when I put myself into wood-working mode I basically forget all the cares around me. Its as if time stands still and my worries just cease. Its kind of like a refuge for me. I feel secure. I feel safe. Its a moment in time where I have chosen to believe that nothing from the outside can enter to harm. As followers of Jesus Christ, our ultimate refuge is the Lord himself. Yes, we can have our favorite chair, or our favorite hobby, or our favorite coffee shop to steal away and be refreshed but only Jesus Christ is our perfect refuge. Only Jesus Christ is able to deliver strength, forgiveness, grace, love, peace, and safety that the outside world fails to deliver. Hide yourself in Christ and when you do you wont be tempted to find your refuge in empty things like material riches that can never truly keep us safe. Only Jesus Christ has the ability and the desire to truly keep us protected from ultimate destruction. Step Out Challenge Ask the Lord to help you see the eternal benefits of finding your protection in him and him alone. Where do you tend to hide sometimes that isnt truly giving you safety?
