***IMPORTANT STUFF ** PLEASE READ*** Hi all - as Congleton Parkrun is thriving in the new year, we felt that is was time to set some reminders for runners new and old.... * Enjoy Parkrun however you want - a training run, a PB attempt, an informal race against a rival, a competitive dog walk (must be on lead),a sociable run, a trip with the baby jogger - whatever you like. Its a run not a race. * Keep to the left to allow faster runners and other park users to pass. * Please continue to be considerate of other users of the park... walkers, dogs, anglers, cyclists, other runners - we are guests of Astbury Mere once a week but have no priority over other park users. We expect to see other users, they might not expect to see you, so the onus is on you to avoid collision with them, your PB can wait until next week. * Please be considerate to your fellow Parkrunners. Remember its a run not a race. In cross country races, we accept the odd bit of elbowing while jostling for a good position before a bottle neck. Parkrun is not a race - keep your elbows etc... to yourself and remember that if someone slows you down this week, we will be back next week for you to go full pace. And the week after that etc... We have had a number of concerns raised that a tiny minority of runners let their enthusiasm get the better of them. We like enthusiasm, but sometimes we must remind ourselves that its a run not a race. Please be mindful of this and let us know of any incidents. * We are regularly full to capacity in the car park and our hosts are aware of this. We must avoid parking on the streets as it annoys neighbours - they were here before Parkrun and we must respect their wishes. We have seen cars parked on pavements, and grass verges, were sure they are not Parkrunners cars because we know that pavements are for running on not parking on. If you know someone who has done this, a polite and friendly word or two will remind them what pavements are for. * On the subject of parking, we need to avoid congestion in the car park. So... - if you have to drive - park as close as possible to the adjacent car. We will ask you to park again if we catch you ;-) (we actually do) - park at Nobanno. If we fill Nobanno up, we can reduce parking congestion by ~25%. Its off Newcastle Road, CW12 4HL. - do you really need to drive? If youre coming without kids and live IN Congleton you probably dont. Im sure there are exceptions to this but most of us can run, walk, jog, cycle etc... There are some lovely routes to The Mere from various parts of Congleton, including canal paths and historic trails. - car share. Its great to see runners sharing lifts with clubmate and friends, aim sure Ive seen 74 South Cheshire Harriers get out of Daves car on some mornings! - on that note, I know a lovely 2m trail from the train station. Email us if you want me to arrange a guided jogging bus to Parkrun. - cycling is excellent - on occasion I have seen Sandbach Striders cycle en masse, they live 10 miles away. So in the nicest possible way, say, ON YER BIKE! to your car. Do it now, we will know, we have access to your phone / laptops camera. You did it! Thank you :-) - Public transport - see above for trains, the bus station is even closer. Were negotiating with Ryanair to do links from where you live to Congleton Airport, watch this space. * Please dont forget your barcodes. We are forbidden from breaking the global Parkrun rule - no bar code, no result. We hate saying No when asked, especially when you have PBd. But look at jt this way, if a runner turned up to London Marathon without a number, they would not be allowed to participate (in fact, they get security to remove numberless runners, look it up). Our event is just as important as London Marathon in so many ways, we will let you run without a barcode but we cant process your result. If you do forget, please dont take it out on our volunteers, you will be a volunteer one day, the pay is rubbish (our union reps are working on this ;-) ) the uniform is bright yellow and the weather can be cold. Also, we cant accept barcodes on phones. * Please volunteer. A regular runner volunteering at least 3 times a year sustains your Parkrun. Check your diary NOW, and email us your availability along with your barcode to congletonoffice@parkrun. Do it now, come on! * We are delighted to say that 25 stints as volunteer gets you a free technical tee shirt now! * Have we mentioned volunteering enough? If you have volunteered or emailed us your availability, then yes, we probably have. If you havent, Ill be at the finishing funnel with the dreaded clipboard shouting bad jokes - you have been warned ;-) * Seriously though, do volunteer. Then we quill shut up about it, quite an incentive. * Finally, enjoy Parkrun, its ours to enjoy, to share, to help out with and to improve our wellbeing with. Just remember, its a run, not a race. Enjoy!
