IN DEFENCE OF THE ODUMAKINS. I consider as sheer rabble - TopicsExpress

IN DEFENCE OF THE ODUMAKINS. I consider as sheer rabble rousing, baseless and mischievous the unsuccessful attempts by few social media commentators to denigrate the twin nominations of Mr. Yinka Odumakin, the Secretary General of Afenefere and his wife, the leader of Women Arise and Campaign for Democracy, our very own Mother in the Struggle, Dr Joe Okei- Odumakin who was honoured recently by the American First Lady as a Global Woman of Courage as delegates to the National Conference. The bond of matrimony binding the duo does not by any stretch of imagination derogate the indubitable fact that these two eminent Nigerians have earned indelible places in the sands of times. I reject any envious and mala fide attempts to disparage these great icons of activism unduly. I have followed these agitators for years now, particularly DrJoe Odumakin, a woman that means so much to me. For those who are oblivious-the relationship and marital contract between the Odumakins was initiated in the field of the struggle. The met at the agitation ground while fighting the military. One early morning, the fearless Joe Odumakin went to the Police Headquarters to paste anti-military posters, unluckily for her, a police officer came out to where she was pointing touch light, she hide inside the gutter and the officer coincidentally urinated at the exact spot thereby baptising her with urine. This is just one example of the prices of the struggle she paid. The Odumakins have escaped bullets and went to jail countless times all for this country. I am not writing this sycophantically, this is not a sanctimonious cries neither is it an attempt to canonize the Odumakins. They are humans as such fallible but Inibehe Effiong will not sit idle and watch while social media snippers and gangsters castigate the duo mindlessly and thoughtlessly. They did not nominate themselves as delegates, they are going they to represent differing interests. While Yinka Odumakin is representing the Afenefere and Yoruba interest Joe Odumakin is representing the Civil Society. So what is the offensive rantings and indefensible cacophony about? If it is about the allowance then lets watch and see, whatever we say about the much talked about pecuniary benefits remains a conjecture. Personally, I am of the view that delegates to the conference should not be paid but if the must be paid, it should be stipends as sitting allowance. STOP THE FRIVOLOUS ATTACKS ON THE ODUMAKINS NOW!
