INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS - PLS READ.... Please be aware of a telephone fraud targeting international students, which has affected students at some other UK universities. In previous cases, the caller informs the student that there is a problem with their original visa application and requests a payment of approximately £675 to solve the issue. Please be aware that these telephone calls are NOT from staff from the UK Border Agency (UKBA). UKBA would NOT approach an applicant or student in this way, nor does the UKBA have any system of fines or penalties. If you receive such a call, we advise the following – • DO NOT give the caller any personal information, and do not confirm that any information they have is correct; • DO NOT make any payment over the phone; • Ask the caller for their name, job title and phone number; • Report the call to either the International Student Support team or Welfare and Education team, who can report the fraud to Action Fraud; You can find more information about this on the UKBA website at - ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/aboutus/scams/ If you have any concerns about this, please contact us at [email protected]
